Quiz: Are You in a Codependent Relationship?

  • Could you be addicted to an addict? Put yourself and your relationship to the test.

Codependent behavior is fairly common, but it’s even more so if you’re in a relationship with someone dealing with addiction. Codependency is a dysfunctional pattern within relationships in which a partner may not prioritize themselves, feels badly about him or herself and both partners fall into problematic and unhealthy ways of relating to one another. Use this informal quiz to take a better look at yourself and how you relate to your partner or spouse. For example, do you tend to give and give, getting little or nothing in return? Do you have a hard time admitting, even to yourself, that your loved one has a problem with addiction? Are you constantly covering for your partner or making excuses for him or her? These are just a few of the warning signs of a codependent relationship. Answer the questions here honestly, then congratulate yourself for taking the first step toward a healthier relationship and a healthier you.

Great article. It is important to remember that the focus should be and needs to be on changing YOU not changing someone else. Heather Pincelli
