Addiction A-Z

Alcoholics Anonymous

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is an international mutual aid organization that unites people who have struggled with alcohol dependency. It was founded in 1935 by Bill Wilson and Dr. Bob Smith, who designed it as a 12-step program, based on concepts from Carl Jung’s theories as influenced by Eastern philosophy, and from spiritual values such as those rooted in the principles of the Oxford Group. AA’s 12-step model has been adopted by countless other support groups. Its mission is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to become and stay sober without judgment or segregation.
